More Than a Safari….

The Youth Adventure Programme is a fully guided camping journey for teenagers aged 14–18, travelling from Windhoek, Namibia, to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.

Over 20 days, participants explore some of Southern Africa’s most remarkable landscapes while taking part in wildlife safaris, outdoor challenges, conservation activities, cultural experiences and community projects.

The programme is designed to help young travellers build confidence, independence and practical skills while forming meaningful friendships and experiencing Africa in a safe, supportive and professionally supervised environment.

Week 1: Astronomy, Desert Ecosystems & Marine Life

The first week introduces participants to the extraordinary natural systems that shape Namibia.

Namibia is renowned for its exceptionally dark, clear night skies, with very little light pollution across large parts of the country. Participants will spend an evening beneath the stars using telescopes to observe planets, star clusters and other features of the southern sky, while learning how to identify major constellations and understand the night sky.

They will also explore the geology and desert ecosystems of the Namib, including how the desert and its vast dune fields were formed over time. They also discover how plants and animals have adapted to survive in one of the driest environments on Earth.

At the coast, participants are introduced to the Benguela Current and its influence on Namibia’s weather, marine life and rich coastal ecosystem. They will also get close to some of the region’s marine animals, including seals, during guided coastal activities.

Week 2: Mini Ranger Course

During the second week, participants complete an intensive, hands-on Mini Ranger Course designed to introduce them to the practical skills, responsibilities and awareness required in the African wilderness.

Participants learn how to identify animal tracks and signs, interpret wildlife behaviour, recognise common birds, mammals, reptiles and plants, and understand how different species depend on one another within an ecosystem.

They also develop essential outdoor skills, including map reading, compass navigation, wilderness awareness, basic survival principles, campsite responsibility and safe behaviour around wildlife.

First-aid training forms an important part of the course, helping participants understand how to respond calmly and responsibly to common injuries and emergency situations in remote environments.

Teamwork is central throughout the week. Participants take part in physical challenges, group problem-solving and conservation activities.

The course include bird ringing, tree planting, campfire cooking and a supervised bush campout

At the end of the week, each participant receives a Mini Ranger Certificate in recognition of the knowledge, practical skills and challenges they have completed.

Week 3: Giving Back & Ranger Skills in Action

During the final week, participants put their newly learned ranger skills into practice while travelling through northern Namibia.

They use their knowledge of wildlife, tracking, ecosystems and conservation during safaris and outdoor activities, while continuing to develop confidence, independence and responsibility.

A central part of the week is Wildfoot’s annual charity project. Before the visit, participants will help prepare something meaningful for children from a local community and will personally deliver it during the programme.

The group will also assist with the handover of school supplies, food and other donated items. This gives participants the opportunity to contribute directly, connect respectfully with the community and understand the importance of giving back while travelling.

The journey concludes at one of the World’s 7 Wonders - Victoria Falls, where participants celebrate the friendships, knowledge and experiences gained throughout the programme.

What Makes This Programme Different

Real Adventure

Participants do not simply observe Africa from a vehicle. They camp beneath the stars, climb dunes, explore wildlife areas, spend time on rivers and take part in practical outdoor activities.

Mini Ranger Course

Participants complete a hands-on Mini Ranger Course covering tracking, navigation, wildlife identification, wilderness awareness, first aid and practical conservation skills. The course ends with a Mini Ranger Certificate recognising their achievement.

Confidence and Connection

Travelling as part of a small group encourages responsibility, teamwork, independence and friendship. Participants return home with new skills, stronger confidence and memories shared with young people from different backgrounds.
